Linked Email Image Creator

A Php script to generate a transparent Image containing an email addess intended to make it more difficult for bots and page scrapers from obtaining your email address for their Spam Databases.

Creating a Personalized, Linked Email Image

  1. Enter your email address. We do not store, save or otherwise use this information.
  2. Select an image height (in pixels)
  3. Submit the request

The script will produce an image with a transparent background (in order to match your site's colouring), the link code to place in your Html page (which contains an obfuscated "mailto:" protocol) and an encoded link alt tag to further thwart the Bots' efforts (so your address can't be found there either). The 1 pixel border is for presentation on this page only. There is no border on the image you will download. An Image Editor like Irfanview can be used to resize or otherwise 'massage' the resulting image.

Of course, Bots are becoming more and more intelligent, so there is no guarantee that this process will be 100% effective against all page scraping. You still need to be diligent about not opening mail from sources you don't recognize or don't trust. Set your Spam guard, and send the bad ones to the Junk Folder for deletion.

Saving Your Linked Email Image & Html Code

  1. Right-click and 'save image as' to obtain the image. It has a default name of email.png.
  2. 'View Source' to obtain the html code. Your code can be found between the comment tags for the script 'div' tags.

Confirming the Html Code

The obfuscated code can be confirmed to be accurate by adding the code to your page, hovering your mouse over the image to see the email address in your Status Bar with the 'mailto:' prefixing the address. If it is not correct, feel free to return to this page and create a new one. We only write the code, we don't do the typing... lol.

Explaining How the Html Code Works

Clicking this link will cause the client's Email software to start and it prepares to submit an email to your address. (With a little editing, this obfuscated code can be replaced with an URL to your contact page instead.) The 'tooltip' on:hover is straight text with the '@' sign and the 'dot' replaced to make it readable, but it cannot be used to send an email without human intervention.

At present, there is a problem with the Hosting service where the script is installed and there are no suitable fonts available for selection, but the problem is being worked on and we should soon being able to offer a variety of fonts to pick from.

Hope you find this script useful. It is but a small effort to attempt to minimize the effect, and waste, of the mass of Unsolicited Commercial Mail being circulated on the Internet. I don't know about you, but there are simply too many of them, in my opinion.
